The water of the trout farm is sourced from a furrow system that diverts approximately 2 km upstream out of the Skeerpoort River. The source of the Skeerpoort River is the Nouklip spring about 3,5 km upstream. It is one of the cleanest rivers in South-Africa. Due to the close proximity to the spring and the fact that the area is unpopulated, the water is cool and clean, which make it ideal for aquaculture. 

Many rare fish species that only occur in unpolluted water, as well as two types of yellowfish occur naturally in the Skeerpoort River System
